The Family Home Movie Act of 2005 gives you the right to view edited movies and TV shows in your own home. As long as you have the right to view the video, such as subscribing to Netflix or Amazon VOD, you can edit your videos.
The Chrome browser plugin automatically filters "bad words" by reading the closed captioning and muting the sound and replacing the word with CENSORED on screen. In addition, when specific content filter are created for videos, the browser will skip those sections.
Without creating an account, you can install the Chrome extension and use the word filtering system and pre-existing filters. But if you create an account, you can also create your own personalized movie filters.
The Chrome plug-in works automatically once you install it. It monitors your browser, and when you play a video in Amazon VOD, Netflix, or Youtube, it automatically censors the "bad words". It also checks to see if a filter script exists for that video. If one does, it automatically applies the filter. If you have created an account and set your preferences, it filters based upon those preferences. If you haven't created an account or set preferences, then by default it filters all flagged areas of the video, but you can turn individual filters on or off.
You aren't limited only to using filter files other people create. You can create your own personalized filter, deciding exactly what to cut out and leave in. Besides creating your new filter files, you can edit existing filter files to create your own personalized filter. For example, suppose the original filter doesn't cut out all the violence you would cut. You can make a copy of the existing filter file, and then add your own filters to it, to make the video play exactly the way you want it.
Our goal is to have filter files for thousands of movies and televison shows, especially new release and popular series. Once we have a certain "critical mass" and people start expecting to see the movie they want in the system, we hope that will inspire more and more people to make their own filter files. If 100 users made just five movie filters each, that would be a great start.
Filters available as of May 1, 2017, include Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull , Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Risen, Time Lapse, Trouble with the Curve, Braveheart, Jurassic Park, and all episodes of Fawlty Towers. You can help by creating your own filter files!
When you create a movie filter, it's automatically available to other people; and other people's filters are available to you. You can use their filters as-is, or use their filters as a basis to create your own personal filter files.
